ESD... goes App!

Awarded the Teaching Prize of the PH Freiburg

Development of ESD tours in and around Freiburg for pupils, teachers, students and citizens of Freiburg and tourists

Project responsibility: Dr. Anna Chatel

Creating digital ESD tours is a new experience for many students and covers a wide range of learning areas. Aspects of ESD are first identified by the students, then worked through in greater depth in terms of content and finally implemented didactically as digital tours, reflected on and tested by their fellow students and the target group.

Augmented reality: By integrating sliders and augmented reality elements into the tours, ESD phenomena can be discovered and perceived that would otherwise have remained hidden. The AR elements extend reality and real space and can support the learning process on site and provide additional information. The tours include, for example, animal species that are rarely seen and that are shown as augmented reality.

Gamification: In ESD tours, the targeted use of gamification elements such as escape rooms, quizzes, geocaching and puzzle elements increases motivation and the emotional experience. Many students appreciate working out the goals of ESD in a playful way. By integrating other applications such as Thinglink, the proportion of gamification could be further expanded.
