Faculty II

Faculty of Cultural and Social Sciences
The Faculty of Cultural and Social Sciences comprises seven departments: the Department of English Studies, the Department of Fine Arts, the Department of German Language and Literature, the Department of Music, the Department of Romance Studies, the Department of Political Science and History, and the Department of Theologies. The faculty is primarily responsible for designing the subject-specific and subject-didactic studies in the field of cultural and social sciences for all teacher training programmes.
The faculty offers teacher training courses in the following subjects: German, English, French, Protestant and Catholic theology/religious education, art, music, politics and history. Languages and the associated multilingual and multicultural content are particularly important in teacher training, in terms of both quantity and quality. The faculty therefore provides significant support for the European Teacher Training (EULA) and Integrated Study Programmes (ITS) profiles. Modules and module courses in the cultural and social sciences are also included in various other bachelor's and master's degree programmes at the university. A list of all degree programmes offered by this faculty can be found further down this website. The faculty has a total of 1,900 students.
The faculty's central facilities include the Language Centre, the Writing Centre and the Centre for Didactic Computer Game Research. Their services are available to the entire university community. The services offered by the Speech Training’ teaching unit are also available to students from other subjects or degree programmes not based at this faculty.
