Processing of Personal Data
Every time you visit our website, our web server automatically collects data and information from your computer.
The following data is collected:
- Browser and operating system data (if transmitted by the requesting web browser)
- The user's IP address
- Date and time of access
- Websites from which the user's system accesses our website
- Websites accessed by the user's system via our website
This information is required in order to deliver and optimise the content of our website, and to ensure the long-term functionality of our IT systems and website technology. It is processed on the basis of legitimate interests within the meaning of Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR.
IP addresses are only recorded for the duration of the visit to enable the website to be delivered to the user's computer and are not stored after the visit ends.
Any remaining data is stored in our system's log files. Since no IP address is stored, there is no way to assign the data to a specific user. The data is therefore anonymous.
Some of the services offered on our website (e.g. event registration and contact forms) require us to collect personal data. Only data that is absolutely necessary is collected, and it is used only for the stated purpose and deleted once that purpose has been fulfilled. This data will not be shared with third parties without your explicit permission, nor will it be linked to the server's log files. The legal basis for processing this data is user consent.
The University of Education Freiburg processes personal data in other systems linked to our website, such as LSF, the learning platform and the applicant management system. You will be informed separately on these platforms about the personal data processed there, as well as all associated rights of data subjects.
YouTube
Our website uses plugins from the Google-operated YouTube site. The operator of the site is YouTube, LLC, 901 Cherry Ave., San Bruno, CA 94066, USA. When you visit a page with a YouTube plugin, a connection is established with a YouTube server, which is informed as to which of our pages you have accessed.
If you are logged into your YouTube account, YouTube can associate your browsing behaviour directly with your personal profile. You can prevent this by logging out of your account.

Contact Forms
If you send us enquiries or registrations via the web form, we will store the details you provide for the purpose of processing your request. We will not pass on this data without your consent. This data will be processed on the basis of your consent in accordance with Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR. You can withdraw your consent at any time. To do so, simply send us an informal email. The legality of the data processing operations carried out prior to the revocation remains unaffected. We will keep the data you provide until you ask us to delete it or withdraw your consent for us to store it, or until the reason for storing it no longer applies (e.g. once your enquiry has been processed).

Chat with Userlike
The University of Education Library in Freiburg offers a live chat service. Using the chat and providing your data are both voluntary. You can also use the live chat anonymously or pseudonymously, or contact us via our other communication channels. No location determination or other collection of log data takes place. Any browser cookies required for the technical processing of the chat environment are deleted after one day. We will only process your data to respond to your enquiry with your consent in accordance with Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR and a legitimate interest in accordance with Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR. The data is processed and stored in a certified data centre belonging to the chat programme provider in Germany. Only University of Education Freiburg library employees responsible for the live chat have access to the data. We will not pass your data on to third parties unless this is necessary to respond to your enquiry. We use the Userlike product from Userlike UG to provide the live chat service, and this company may access the data if necessary. To protect users, we have concluded a contract for order processing with the service provider in accordance with Article 28 of the GDPR.

Chat histories are deleted after one month, following the automated collection of statistical usage data (e.g. number of chats per month and topics requested). Any personal data you provide to us for the purpose of clarifying your request, such as your name or library account number, will be deleted immediately after your request has been processed, unless legal retention periods prevent this.

Rights of the Data Subject
In accordance with the GDPR, every person affected by the processing of personal data has the right to request information from the responsible body about the personal data stored about them. They also have the right to request the immediate correction of inaccurate personal data, or its deletion or restriction, or to object to its processing.
You may withdraw your consent to the processing of your personal data for data protection purposes at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.
You may also contact the relevant supervisory authority if you have any concerns about how your personal data is being processed.
Deletion of Personal Data
We will only process and store personal data for as long as is necessary to achieve the storage purpose or as required by law or regulations.
Email Security
If you send us an email, we will only use your email address to correspond with you. Please note that transmitting data via email on the internet may expose it to security vulnerabilities. It is not possible to protect data completely from access by third parties.
