Bilingual Geography Teaching and Learning
Status: Project completed
Responsible persons: Prof. Dr. Gregor C. Falk, Dr. Michael Müller
Bilingual geography makes an important contribution to enabling learners to handle a broad variety of communication situations in a globally interconnected world. Educational strategies at the various educational institutions are correspondingly diverse.
The geography activities at the PH Freiburg include the further development of bilingual teaching materials in the context of subject-didactic development research, the offering and expansion of various qualification structures. Particular attention is paid to accompanying didactic research.
The project “Learning tasks for intercultural learning in bilingual geography-English lessons” deals with the development of complex learning tasks that have been tested and researched in bilingual geography lessons in several research cycles. The results are summarized in a clearly structured teaching model that enables teachers to teach intercultural skills based on a contemporary concept of culture.
The textbook series “Terra Geography – Bilingual Teaching” with the associated materials and teacher manuals was designed and edited at the institute on the basis of corresponding didactic research (https://www.klett.de/lehrwerk/terra-bilingual/produktuebersicht).
