Geocommunication and Out-of-School Education (Heritage Interpretation)

In the WG "Physical Geography and Sustainability" at the Institute of Geography and Geography Education several projects on nature and culture interpretation "Heritage Interpretation" are currently being implemented; this is a methodical-didactic educational approach for protected areas, visitor centres, museums and historically significant places. The aim is to explore the natural and cultural heritage value-orientated from different perspectives and to grasp the relevance and significance in a co-creation process. Heritage Interpretation provides food for thought on questions of the present and the shaping of the future. The approach can therefore provide impulses for 'Education for Sustainable Development' and contribute to raising awareness for nature and heritage conservation. Digital media such as apps, augmented and virtual reality are increasingly being used and tested to convey the natural and cultural phenomena.
