What are the Aims of the Degree Program?

The goal is to develop a nuanced and reflective understanding of sustainability concepts and education for sustainable development (ESD). You will also learn to develop and apply various methodological and didactic approaches to teaching sustainability topics.
Upon completing the program, you will be able to engage with sustainability topics in an interdisciplinary, solution-focused manner, critically examine them, and place them within broader systemic contexts.

Competencies I Will Acquire:

  • Interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary knowledge: I will analyze exemplary sustainability topics and understand them within larger systemic contexts.
  • Critical understanding of sustainability and ESD: I will have a reflective understanding of the key concepts, terms, and objectives of sustainability and ESD across various levels.
  • Forward-thinking, solution-oriented thinking: I will develop the ability to think critically, from multiple perspectives, and focus on future-oriented solutions, even amidst ambiguity.
  • Didactics and methodology: I will be familiar with various approaches to teaching sustainability topics and apply these methods effectively.
  • Science communication: I will be able to plan and implement target group-oriented communication strategies, including the use of digital media.
  • Data analysis and visualization: I will gain the skills to collect, evaluate, and clearly present my own data on sustainability-related topics.
