Why study at the University of Education?

CAMPUS UNIVERSITY

Our university is located on a 5-hectare, park-like campus where the city of Freiburg meets the Black Forest. We aim to become carbon neutral by 2030. To achieve this, we have insulated buildings, optimized servers, switched to groundwater heat pumps for heating, installed solar panels, and built a new timber-framed campus building. This ecological transformation serves as a practical testing ground for our teaching, especially within the new Master's in Sustainability and Climate Education.
A central focus of our university is research on UNESCO’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Nearly all our institutes are involved in SDG-related research. Our flagship initiative is the ReCCE (Research Centre for Climate Change Education and Education for Sustainable Development), where an interdisciplinary team of researchers is investigating how to organize effective ESD and climate education. ReCCE is part of the ICCE, an international consortium of 10 universities and research institutions working on education research across borders.
Our university has been teaching and researching environmental issues and education for over 30 years!
With a student body of 5,000 and nearly 500 faculty members, we boast an excellent student-to-teacher ratio.
