Journal club with Professor Ricardo Gómez

Dear doctoral and advanced master students,

We are excited to invite you to join our upcoming Journal Club at the University of Education Freiburg, hosted by visiting Professor Ricardo Gómez (Universidad de Antioquia, Colombia) who is an expert in quantitative methods and educational research. This unique initiative aims to foster a collaborative environment for in-depth discussion and critical analysis of research papers in the field of education. Participation in the journal club will equip members with a deeper understanding of diverse research methodologies, encourage critical thinking, and foster collaborative learning. It also provides a platform for participants to network, share insights, and potentially collaborate on future projects. The journal club is open to all interested individuals, regardless of their level of expertise. Pre-reading of the discussed papers is required for a fruitful discussion which will take place in English. We will discuss large-scale assessment data analysis, computational thinking interventions and protocols to conduct scoping reviews. Please learn morge about the sessions below.

Session 1 - Large-Scale Assessment Data Analysis

In our first session, we will delve into a study that utilizes large-scale assessment data. This discussion will focus on the methodology adopted for data collection and analysis, the insights derived from such vast datasets, and the implications for the broader educational landscape.

Session 2 - Computational Thinking Intervention
Monday, November 20th, 10.15 am - 11.45 am; room: KG 2, 217
Our second session will center around a research paper detailing the results of an intervention aimed at enhancing computational thinking among middle and high school students. We will discuss the intervention's design, its impact, challenges faced, and potential for scalability and adaptation.

CANCELLED - Session 3 - Scoping Review Protocol

The third and final session will explore a protocol delineating a scoping review of the literature. This will provide club members with an understanding of the systematic approach to reviewing vast amounts of literature, the criteria for inclusion and exclusion of studies, and the significance of such reviews in informing future research.]
