In 2014, a working group interested in the complex topic of Afghanistan in the broadest sense was established at the University of Education Freiburg by the Professorship for General Sociology with a focus on educational research. After the events of 2021, the working group was formalized and intensified its activities in research, training, and practice. We officially formalized a "Arbeitsstelle Afghanistan" (English: Working Group Afghanistan) at the University of Education Freiburg. The goal of this working group is to conduct in-depth research on the topic of Afghanistan and the Afghan diaspora in the three areas of education, health, and sociology.

On this website, we would like to inform you about our past and current projects. Moreover, we describe our theoretical approaches in order to keep our perspectives as transparent as possible in the context of the complex research on Afghanistan.

The Working Group consists of a 5-member Directorate and various members. The working group cooperates closely with external researchers and partners (See members).
