INVITED Talks is a series of events focused on Virtual Exchange (VE) in pre-primary and primary language classrooms, organized by the INVITED project - Integrating Primary and Pre-school Virtual Exchange Projects into Language Teacher Education (invited-project.eu).

The INVITED project — Integrating Primary and Pre-school Virtual Exchange Projects into Language Teacher Education, is a transnational initiative involving the University of Education in Germany, the University of Murcia in Spain, the University of Warsaw in Poland and the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia, as well as the collaboration of Strathclyde University in the UK.

Do 11.06.2026, 18 Uhr: “Tweet and Meet”: A virtual exchange project between an Austrian and a Portuguese preschool, connected through the theme of birds. - Presenter: Dr. Kirsten Birsak de Jersey is a lecturer at the University of Education, Freiburg

Dr. Kirsten Birsak de Jersey has been working in an immersion English preschool and with preschool and primary school children in other contexts for over 20 years. She is also a lecturer at the University of Education, Freiburg. Her research focus is on teacher education for teaching English to young learners. She is currently involved in the Erasmus+ project “INVITED” that connects children across contexts through virtual exchanges, supporting interaction, shared learning, and intercultural learning.

The webinar will give insight into a preschool virtual exchange project that took place between an immersion bilingual preschool in Austria and a preschool in Portugal, which includes English in their curriculum. The webinar explores how asynchronous and synchronous activities can be organised to engage children. It will look more closely at how preschool children experience virtual exchange, including their thoughts and feelings about the exchange, their partner class, and how English is part of the project.
